Incentives
Frequently asked questions

Questions, answered.

What incentives are, who the Gateway is for, and how signing up and billing work.

Overview

What's an incentive?

An incentive is financial value available to a customer purchasing or using an eligible energy device. Incentives can include upfront discounts, rebates, and ongoing earnings from virtual power plant participation.

Who is this for?

Leap's Incentives Gateway is designed for companies that sell energy technologies and want to increase sales and provide a great customer experience by showing their customers the incentives available for new purchases. It can support sales, customer experience, marketing, finance, rebates and other teams at manufacturers, distributors, resellers, financing providers, and other companies involved in selling eligible energy devices.

Who is Leap?

Will my customers see Leap's brand, or mine?

Yours. Leap operates behind the scenes — your customer sees your brand throughout the purchase and enrollment experience.

What's a VPP?

VPP stands for Virtual Power Plant — a network of enrolled distributed energy resources and devices (batteries, EVs, smart devices and systems) that utilities and grid operators pay for supporting the electrical grid during times of peak demand. When your customer enrolls, you can earn recurring revenue for as long as they stay enrolled, not just a one-time rebate.

What's an application?

An application is the information and documentation submitted to an incentive program to confirm eligibility and claim an available rebate or other incentive. Leap automates the application process for your customers.

Getting started

How long does it take to sign up and start using the Incentives Gateway?

It takes just a few minutes to sign up and get started. A business email address is needed to access the portal, and you can start making lookups as soon as you add a credit card. Your first 1,000 lookups are free.

Do I need engineering resources to get started?

You can look up individual sites or upload a .csv file to check incentive eligibility for multiple sites directly in the portal. To surface results in your e-commerce channels or customer apps, you will need to integrate with the API. We have comprehensive documentation, and the engineering work should be able to be completed quickly. Read the docs

Pricing

What is a "lookup"?

A lookup is one eligibility check for a specific customer location and one or more devices — for example, checking what a customer in San Jose qualifies for on a Level 2 EV charger.

What happens after my first 1,000 free lookups?

You'll move to standard Pay As You Go pricing ($0.50 per lookup) unless you've already upgraded to the Starter package.

Why is "application filing" priced separately?

With a filing, Leap submits and tracks a rebate or program application with a utility on your customer's behalf, from submission through approval. It's billed separately from customer location and device lookups because it involves ongoing work with the utility.

Is this a beta product? Will pricing or features change?

During the beta, we may be making changes to add functionality and improve the user experience. Pricing may change ahead of a general launch, and we'll work to minimize the impact for customers who enrolled during the beta.
